Jonagold|Calla Lily|Pip

My process for choosing patterns often starts with an inspiration image, or images. Then I can look to see what patterns can be used to recreate the look. It’s easier to pick fabrics, and style them when there’s an end idea semi-planned.

That’s what I did with this mini collection I made for Maia! I had the short overall plus tee look in mind first. But like I’ve said in the past. I like MORE. Plus, you can’t waste a black and white stripe basic tee, so with a little more inspiration searching, I decided to sew a mustard skirt to style with it too!

Here’s my Jonagold + Calla Lily

The Jonagold is part of the Project Run & Play capsule collection that released recently, and I let my daughter choose the view I sewed, but there are also some other great options, including pants length, and a skirt! This is linen, and I know she’ll wear it a lot this summer.

I almost forgot! Calla Lily is designed for woven fabrics, with buttons down the back. But I prefer knit for tops, and my girls do too, so with a small modification, I sewed it from double brushed poly, and of course made it in record time!

I cut off the placket portion of the back piece, and scooted it off the fold 3/8″ before I cut. That’s it! I hemmed the sleeves, and bottom 3/8″ and cut a neckband to fit that was 1.5″ wide. Bam! Now you try it! I love when a pattern gives a little extra versatility. This would also be gorgeous in a drapey rayon, and maybe that will be next…

The Pip skirt is a FREE pattern on Jennuine Design’s website! And the pocket design is so fun! The panel is folded up accordion style to create the pocket, so it’s super simple, and nifty! This is a great base for your own ideas. I think I’m going to use this skirt design added onto a dress bodice, since the pockets are so perfect.

  1. I loved sewing these up, and am very happy with how they turned out! As always, I know when I go by measurements, Jennuine Designs patterns will fit perfectly! They are truly a joy to sew ❤
