I LOVE getting to participate in blog tours, and this one was such a super idea, I didn’t have to think twice before signing up. This one is called “Basically Jalie” and the idea is to show off basics from Jalie patterns. There weren’t many stipulations, and you could make whatever is a “basic” for you, which is different for everyone. HOWEVER, my family needs nothing more than new underwear right now, badly, because I sew, but apparently can’t be bothered to assembly line sew some of the simplest things to make several for each them, until I’m scheduled to post about it on my blog. Haha!
I chose to sew Julia 3886 and Gérald 3885 for everyone in the family. Julia also comes with a bralette and cami, and a high rise option on the bottoms. Gérald comes in three lengths, has an optional horizontal fly, and works as swim trunks or leggings too!
But the main versatility that makes it so perfect for me is that the size range of Gérald spans from toddler 2 – mens XXXL. And Julia comes in sizes toddler 2 – women’s 24. I can make these for errbody.
I chose the no fly option, and the lower rise option, respectively, for everyone. They came together so quickly. The boxers have 3 pieces to cut out for this view, and the Julia underwear also only have 3 pieces. I have gobs of fold over elastic from Hobby Lobby, which I bought when my girls were sewing sleep masks like nobody’s business, and had plenty of selection to make these.
All the fabrics are cotton Lycra, and most are from Raspberry Creek Fabric, with the exception of the dinosaur print, which is from Love Adore Knits.
These have been washed and worn multiple times by now, with exclamations of comfort. The sizing was exact based on measurements.
And last, but not least, MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT JALIE PATTERNS, and it’s totally not basic, is the thumbnail in the corner of the first page of the pattern pieces that shows you the whole picture of all the pieces, and as you’re clicking layers off, they disappear in that thumbnail too, so you can see exactly which pages you need to print to get your size!! GAME CHANGER, especially since I usually sew kids clothes, and don’t usually need all the pages.
